Clarity vs. Windows 98

Dear partners,



as you might have heard Microsoft is going to stop a support of Windows
98 in June 2006.



We in DataApex put strong emphasis on keeping our products compatible
with as many of currently used versions of Windows operating systems
(OS) as possible.



However providing compatibility of new versions of Clarity with Windows
98/Me brings several problems:



a) These versions of Windows are based on architecture that is not ideal
for real-time applications. We already recommend to use more stable
systems such as Windows 2000/XP.



b) Preserving of the compatibility with the obsolete architecture of
Win98/Me limits the possibilities and complicates further development of
Clarity.



c) In addition it is quite time consumable to keep thorough reliability
tests of all products under large number of operation systems. Limiting
to the the Win2000 will enable more extensive testing.



Focusing on the Windows2000/XP (and future VISTA) platforms will give us
better possibility to keep Clarity stable and reliable while keeping
pace with the latest technology.



On the other hand we are aware of the many users running the Clarity
software under Windows 98.



Because we are going to introduce the next Clarity release (2.4.2 -
March/April 2006) for Windows 2000 and XP only we would like to know
your opinion.

Hi Jan, et al

Very happy with Win2000 / XP only support. Windows Millennium and 98 are
so old now I am sure users of these operating systems would expect to
upgrade to a Microsoft supported version.

Hi Jan

As Windows 98 will no longer be supported I think it is accepted modern
software will also move with the times.
It can be argued benefits outway any problems of updating from 98 as more
recent hardware such as DVD writers and networks are focussed on the more
recent OS versions.

I look forward to the new Clarity release.
