IMPLEMENTED - Calibration bracketing

Post by Daniel Mentlik »

Calibration bracketing is a method that takes care of the changing conditions for the analysis during the measurement of larger volumes of samples.

Under normal conditions, there is a calibration standard (or standards) measured at the beginning of the sequence, followed by a number of samples. The analyte concentrations are calculated from the standard measured at the beginning of the sequence. Then, the recalibration is performed, and a new set of samples is measured based on the recalibrated results, and so on.
As it may be clearly seen, the concentrations in particular samples are calculated from the calibration that was measured in a different time of the sequence, possibly under slightly different conditions.

When the calibration bracketing is used, the concentrations of analytes in a sample are not calculated from the single set of calibration standards measured prior the analysis of the sample, but from the average of responses for the standard measured prior to the analysis of the sample and the standard measured after the analysis of the sample. This approach creates lesser error in the measured concentrations when the response shifts because of the changing analysis conditions.

Bracketed calibration is so important for long runs. I thought there would be hundred names on the list voting for this by now!
