The standard addition method is widely used in gas chromatography as a substitution for the calibration. Its main advantage is that the use of the standard addition method reduces the effect of the sample matrix on the response of the real sample (in comparison to the effect of the calibration standard matrix to the response of the compound in the calibration standard).
