pesticide residues

We have an Agricultural Laboratory wherein we are required to analyze complete spectrum of pesticide residues as required by CODEX/EU and US FDA. Initially we had GC Model 14 B and now we have up graded it with ECD. However during installation we have been told that ECD can not test organo phosphorous and sulfur pesticide residues and we need to have another detector for the same.

We need the details of the pesticide residues, which can be tested on GC ECD with Model 14 B. Also let us know the range of pesticide residues being covered with the use of NPD detector. How beneficial is FTD to combination of NPD and FID.

Please advise.

Dear Roy,

try to have a look at the chromatography forum at http://www.sepsci.com/chromforum/
this will be probably the best place to find your answer.

Who is producer of GC Model 14B ?
Indeed, ECD is not useful for sulfur and phosphorous compounds. However, with ECD you can measure some trizines (nitrogen compounds like atrazine) but not all. For phosphorous you need NPD (and you have also nitrogen compounds), and for sulfur you need Flame Photometer detector (FPD). Too complex ! Better a GC/MS.
Success.

Producer of GC Model 14B was Shimadzu until end last year. Now this model is
not in production any more
