Pump control via RS232

Post by techlab »

Does anyone have experience with the universal pump control module to
build a serial controller for gradient pumps ? If yes, which pumps
can be controlled?

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

Werner Röpke

Pump control via RS232

Post by Ivan Vins »

Dear Werner,

To use a UNI LC Pump control module, the pump should have a RS232 serial line communication with a simple ASCII command communication protocol available. The pump should have a command for setting the actual flow and composition, the gradient is formed in Clarity and sent as immediate commands to the pump. Either high pressure gradients or low pressure gradients can be controlled. With high pressure gradients it may be necessary to use independent drivers (separate com ports) for each pump (LabAlliance), however some pumps allow for addressing several of them on the same serial line (Flom, Kontron with multiport interface). More details you can find in the LC UNI pump control module manual available for download from our web pages.

Profiles for LabAlliance Series II, Series III, Prep 100 and 1500 pumps, Knauer Smartline 1000, Ecom Alpha and Beta are available, others are available for testing.

Best regards

Pump control via RS232

Dear Ivan,

does anyone use older Knauer K-1000 series?

Is the Merck-Merck-Hitachi Gradient pump controllable via RS232?

Werner

Dear Werner

Knauer K-1000 does not support the simple ASCII protocol, it could not be controlled by Clarity UNI LC pump control module. For K-500 the control should be available. However Knauer is planning to develop drivers for his older pumps in the future too.

I am not familiar enough with Merck-Hitachi pumps, in case they support some ASCII communication, we do not have the protocols.
